The Head of the Bearer
Before embarking on a monumental sculpture, James makes a number of scale models (Maquettes) and studies to practise technique and discover methods of heightening drama and emotive connect. This Study took some 3 months to perfect and was the model upon which the head of the life sized “Bearer of Infinite Blessings” (which stands outside of the Oakridge Atrium) was based. The lift of the mouth, the angle of the eyes and bridge of the nose all feed into the overall character of the final piece. In the case of the Bearer, James wanted to protray a haughty demeanour, commanding but humorous.
This study has been fitted with a bracket that allows the piece to hang as a Trophy Head against a wall.
